Do you know if your dog will defend you in the event of a home invasion?
In this video, it showed when a masked intruder kicked down the door in Minneapolis, it frightened the two pooches and they took off. Another story in a home outside Philadelphia, the owner’s dog ran away after a burglar hurls a plate at it.
So would your dog come to your defense if a burglar ever broke in your house? Michelle Kelleher has a five-year-old yellow Lab called Perry. Michelle loves her dog but she wonders whether Perry will go the extra yard to protect her. In order to find out, they enlisted guard dog experts Nick and Michael to put on a show to test Perry. So with Michelle’s permission, their burglar Tim puts on a great performance as he pretends to assault Michelle, she screams for Perry. So what does Perry do, does she jump in to save her. In this case, unfortunately, Perry heads for the door and Michelle was left alone to defend herself.
The guard dog expert explained, “this is called flight, her tail is tucked, she’s actually looking for a way out.” “I’m a little surprised she almost took off!” Said Michelle.
Next test was Kevin Peterson’s four-year-old Pitbull Lab mix, Ruby. “I believe she’s going to bite but I’d like to find out how she handled the so-called home invasion.” The scene sure looks terrifying, Ruby comes running to investigate, oh yeah she’s not so brave either. She runs away, can you believe it, she’s part Pitbulls?
“Ruby was curious, she was worried about Kevin, but she was not willing to take on the attacker. Sorry Kevin!” They laughed!
Now meet the duo Frodo and Dobby, ferocious-looking? Not even close. They live with Ellen in Westchester County New York. “I think Frodo is really going to go after the attacker.” Said Ellen.
Well, we’ll just see about that. Ella puts on quite a show and when they hear mom is under attack the two come running into the room. Watch as brave Frodo gets right into the mix, he even jumps up on the burglar and he ran out the door. “They did amazing!” Said Mike. Frodo instinctively does a guard-dog technique called splitting. He goes right in between, puts himself in the line of fire and then continues to drive the burglar out. Little Dobby was just as fearless.
Once they realize that something was wrong they really both stepped up, like how they work together. Who would have thought the littlest dogs including a chihuahua would turn out to be the bravest.
